Vintage Lingerie with Bethany Cammack

14th July 2016By Emma RobinsonModel Shoot

Whilst a lot of my work involves working with girls who have no experience in front of the camera, and most commonly have booked a shoot as a gift for a special someone in their lives or as an amazing confidence boost for themselves, I also love it when I get the opportunity to work with a more experienced model.

Stunning female portrait

When the beautiful Bethany Cammack got in touch to see if I’d like to arrange a shoot I jumped at the chance. Bethany is relatively local to me here in the North West of the UK, and the holder of many Beauty Pageant titles including Miss Merseyside International, Miss Teen Galaxy England, Miss Royal Lancashire and Miss Great Britain.

Whether I’m shooting with a boudoir client, or a model, the most exciting part of a shoot for me is seeing what outfits they’ve brought with them; and Bethany really didn’t disappoint! My jaw literally hit the floor when she pulled out the most beautiful selection of true vintage lingerie that had originally belonged to her Nan. I was in heaven!

How fabulous must her Nan have been? Bethany looked amazing in all the pieces she brought along, and it was just perfect for a boudoir shoot!

On the shoot I was joined by the fabulous Kathryn Farrington Makeup Artistry and Fiona Longshair Hair who did the most amazing hair and makeup to compliment the romantic boudoir styling of the shoot.

Bethany was a pleasure to work with, I can’t wait to have her back in the studio again!

This shoot was published in Vintage Boudoir Magazine Issue 18: Good Girls vs. Bad Girls. Can you guess which one Bethany was?!

Boudoir Photo Shoot with Kathryn

31st May 2016By Emma RobinsonClient Shoot, Model Shoot, The Studio

Kathryn is no stranger to the Lace and Pearl studio. She’s been one of my main makeup artists from the very start, and is normally to be found in the dressing room making sure our beautiful clients look and feel their absolute best ready for their photo shoot.

However, when Kathryn suggest that she would actually like to have a boudoir photo shoot herself I jumped at the opportunity to photograph her.

Although Kathryn is a professional makeup artist, she is not a model and this was her first ever experience in front of the camera. While she was most definitely nervous initially (like many of my girls are!) she soon relaxed into the photo shoot, putting her trust in me and we captured some stunningly beautiful images.

Of course, being so familiar with my work Kathryn had a clear idea of some particular shots she really wanted to recreate for herself. The swing, something relaxed on the window and a flower bath where all on her must have list. I always encourage my customers to look through my portfolio so I can get a feel for what they like and any specific shots they just have to have! Of course if you aren’t sure that’s no problem either, I’m more than happy to pick for you.

I particularly love this photo of Kathryn on the window in nothing but a man’s shirt and a pair of heels. Some of my customers worry about what to bring to their shoot, as some girls don’t always want the full on glamour of lingerie. A baggy fit jumper, or one of your man’s shirts is always a super fun option to bring along with you. After all, what man wouldn’t want photos of you looking amazing in his shirt?!

Kathryn brought along a lovely selection of lingerie and outfits (including the most amazing faux fur coat – another super fun option to bring along to your shoot!) that we accessorised with various robes, shoes and jewellery from the Lace and Pearl wardrobe.

In this photo on our swing seat Kathryn is wearing an outfit entirely from the Lace and Pearl wardrobe – the bodysuit, robe, hold ups and shoes are just a small selection of the items we have available here. Our collection of lingerie and accessories is ever growing and all our boudoir customers are welcome to borrow from our wardrobe for their shoot.

Flower Bath Boudoir Photo Shoot Lace and Pearl

From the very start I knew Kathryn wanted to include our signature Flower Bath. It’s such a fun thing to shoot, after all just how many opportunities do you have to bathe in real flowers? I love shooting this, it’s so romantic and makes an amazing edition to any boudoir shoot. The only thing to remember is that the Flower Bath must be booked at least 48 hours in advance (as we use real flowers!) so if you would like to do this on your shoot please do remember to let me know ahead of time!

Boudoir Makeover with Xara

24th May 2016By Emma RobinsonClient Shoot, Model Shoot, The Studio

I love every shoot I do for different reasons, and this makeover with the beautiful Xara is no exception. An incredibly talented fashion designer, Xara has also done a little modelling (mostly to showcase her own fabulous designs!) so when she got in touch to say she wanted a boudoir makeover with me I was incredibly excited to work with her. While I do shoot a whole lot of regular girls for my boudoir makeovers, I also love working with models. Booking a boudoir shoot with Lace and Pearl is a fantastic way to provide a beautiful update to your modelling portfolio!

On the day, I’d invited my friend Jo from Jo Boulton Photography along to see what happens behind the scenes on a boudoir shoot. I wouldn’t normally invite other people along to a shoot, but as Xara has some experience modelling she was more than happy to have another person in the studio. Jo is a super talented wedding photographer, but she’s also recently opened a studio to focus more on her newborn photography. Coming along to a boudoir gave her a chance to see how I run a shoot and how I work in my studio. Whether you are looking for a wedding photographer or a newborn photographer (seriously go check out her Newborn As Art work – it’s amazing!) I can whole heartedly recommend her.

On the day, Kerry Baker, an incredibly talented makeup artist was on hand to provide the makeover and as always, her work was flawless.

One of the most exciting parts of a shoot for me is when I get to see what lovely lingerie has been brought for us to work with. While the Lace and Pearl wardrobe is ever growing with a beautiful collection of lingerie and accessories, I find many people prefer to bring their own outfits to the shoot. Xara didn’t disappoint – she’d opted to shoot 3 different outfits and had brought an amazing selection of both lingerie and shoes. I was spoilt for choice! We used the beautiful selection of outfits Xara had brought and supplemented it with a variety of robes, shoes and accessories from the Lace and Pearl wardrobe.

A lover of both pilates and yoga, Xara was a joy to shoot. When she asked if we could shoot some handstands I was super excited to bring a little of her personality to the images we captured.

The Great Northern Wedding Show – plus winner of competition to win a boudoir shoot announced

26th April 2016By Emma RobinsonExhibitions

Hi again everyone!

It’s been a bit of a crazy weekend here at Lace and Pearl, as we exhibited at the Great Northern Wedding Show 2016 – Little White Book’s flagship wedding show. Located at the USN Bolton Arena, part of the Macron Stadium, and with 120 exhibitors it was always going to be an amazing event.

I’m very lucky that my husband is a joiner by trade and has his own business making high end bespoke domestic and commercial furniture. As a result, it was a bit of a no-brainer that we decided to forsake the standard shell scheme format and build our own stand completely from scratch.

I couldn’t be happier with the stand he designed for me – we tried really hard to bring a small taste of the actual studio to the show. A wooden floor, brick wall and wooden beams.

We also decided to bring along our latest beautiful addition to our boudoir sets – a stunning ornate birdcage seat. I can’t wait to show you all how this looks within a boudoir shoot!

The decision to bring along the seat was mainly focused on the exclusive competition we ran at the show – the opportunity to win one of our amazing Lace and Pearl boudoir makeover photoshoots. To enter, we asked people to sit on the “selfie seat” for a photo and then post it to social media telling us why they’d love to win the makeover.

The day was a huge success. I was joined on the stand by the lovely Kathryn from Kathryn Farrington Makeup Artistry, one of the makeup artists I use to work her magic and make all my beautiful boudoir ladies look stunning. We both got to speak to lots of amazing brides-to-be, their friends and family, and even a few enthusiastic grooms too!

Great Northern Wedding Show Best Stand Winner Lace and Pearl

At the end of the day, we had the most amazing surprise when we were presented with the award for the Best in Show as we had the stand with the Most Gorgeous Display. We were thrilled to win, and it was a really nice recognition of all the hard work we put in to producing the stand.

After the show it was lovely to see the entries for our competition start to come in on #laceandpearlboudoir and even lovelier to read the reasons why people wanted a shoot. The repeated message was people wanted to feel more confident about themselves, to improve their self esteem and their body confidence. A boudoir makeover is a fantastic way to work on this, and really does make you feel amazing about yourself!

As much as I would have liked to give away a shoot to each and every one of these ladies, there can be only one winner. And that winner is…

Lace and Pearl win a boudoir shoot winner

Pygmypenguin, aka Lily Michs, who entered our competition on Instagram. Huge congratulations to you Lily – we’ll be in touch very soon to arrange your shoot with us!

And to everyone else who entered, I’d like to offer you 10% off a boudoir shoot with us as a thank you for entering our competition. I’ll be in touch via social media to let you know how to book, or in the mean time email me for more details.

Welcome to Lace and Pearl

23rd April 2016By Emma RobinsonThe Studio

Welcome to Lace and Pearl!

Now that our new website has been launched, I thought I’d kick start the blog and take the opportunity to tell you a bit more about both myself and the Lace and Pearl studio.

For those of you who haven’t met me, my name is Emma and I’m the owner / photographer here at Lace and Pearl, a photography studio that specialises in boudoir makeovers.

I’ve been a photographer for quite some time now, although I’ve loved photography since I was a little girl. My Nanna loves to take photos, she always has, and she’s amassed the most amazing collection of photographs that document our family life. I’m not sure how old I was when she first handed me a camera, probably too young to remember!

I know my own little boy was 2 when I first handed him one of my old cameras, and he loves to take photos of us all along with his favourite teddies whenever he can.

Over the years I’ve tried and enjoyed many types of photography, but it was around 6 months ago that I decided to take the plunge and dedicate my studio fully to boudoir work. Being a female photographer, I’ve always been asked to take boudoir portraits, and I slowly started to realise it was something I truly love doing.

I love empowering women to feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. The reaction when they see their photos is why I do what I do, I love it! The fact their partners also love the images is definitely an added bonus in my opinion.

Studio 1

I’m lucky enough to have the entire first floor of an old haybarn, that once belonged to a mill complex. The mill itself is sadly long gone, our building is the only original one left on the site, but if you look closely around the complex you can still see signs of it’s heritage.

When I first walked into the studio, it looked very different to what it does now. But even then, the potential was incredibly obvious. Beautiful original hardwood floors, stunning brick walls and a huge high vaulted ceiling with wooden beams.

Studio 2

Of course, there was a lot of work needed to make it into a working studio, but it was well worth it.The real question is though, what do you all think of the studio space? Would you love to come here and spend time with us?

Studio 3

Throughout the whole renovation process we’ve strived to create not just a photography studio, but a lovely space that our customers will enjoy spending time in.

Studio 5

As well as creating a beautiful space, I’ve tried to focus on having lots of really beautiful romantic boudoir sets that make us different from other studios. Our roll top bath is fully plumbed in (so yes you really can relax in an indulgent bubble bath during your shoot!), the bed is bespoke and handmade, as is the spectacular wooden swing seat.

I’ve got so many more ideas for amazing sets that I want to create – I’m excited to bring them to the Lace and Pearl studio very soon!

Studio 4

So what are your thoughts? I’d love to hear what you all think about the studio!
